Advice for Road Runners: The Nike Men’s Tempo in the Bright Crimson/Obsidian-Sail colourway is the perfect training partner to the Vaporfly or Alphafly. That’s because it’s significantly more durable, but still brings extra propulsion to your training.
Underfoot Feel
The Nike Men’s Tempo midsole features React foam in the heel area, and ZoomX foam in the midfoot to forefoot. You’ll also notice two Zoom Air Units in the forefoot. The composite plate in the midsole is not as obvious.
The best way to describe the underfoot experience is that of protection and propulsion. While it doesn’t feel as soft as it’s full ZoomX foam counterparts, it is very cushioned. When you pick up the pace, the midsole comes alive. There’s no doubt it makes faster efforts feel easier.
Upper Fit
The translucent Flyknit upper fits like a sock. From our experience, we expect you’ll find the Tempo locks your feet into place, but also provides ample space in the forefoot. A fully-gusseted tongue means it can’t move out of place. We recommend wearing ankle cut socks with the Tempo, due to the way the heel collar fits.
Ideal Run Type
If you’d like to save your all out race day shoes for events, but still want something faster for training sessions, the Nike Men’s Tempo is a great choice. It’s specifically designed to offer more durability than a Vaporfly or Alphafly. This means it copes well with weekly interval and tempo sessions. The high amount of ZoomX midsole content helps minimise fatigue from hard sessions too.
Shoe size is a personal preference and everyone’s feet are different, but we want to ensure you avoid any pain or discomfort from bruised toenails, rubbing, blistering or pins and needles.
Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb’s width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).
This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
