Advice for Road Runners: The Altra Women’s Via Olympus in the Black colourway is the most cushioned model in Altra’s range of road running shoes. It also features a rocker shaped midsole to improve forward momentum and lower the work done by the calf muscles.
Underfoot Feel
Expect the Altra Via Olympus to feel protective and padded underfoot. That’s because the thick midsole features Altra’s most cushioned material, EGO™ MAX foam. You’ll also feel like the midsole rolls you forward. This is down to the rocker shaped midsole. To explain further, the curved geometry rocks your feet forward at landing and reduces the work done by the lower leg area.
The Via Olympus features Altra’s signature Balanced Cushioning. That means there’s no difference between the height of the heel and the forefoot. You should notice a distinctly stable underfoot feel.
Upper Fit
As the upper of the Altra Via Olympus is made with an Original FootShape Fit, it will feel very spacious in the toe box area. All Altra running shoes fit the natural shape of the foot. However, the Original last is the broadest. This is great for runners who prefer a roomier fit. If you get sore feet from bunions or Morton’s Neuroma, this shape should also work well for you.
Ideal Run Type
We recommend running in the Altra Women’s Via Olympus on your slower to steady paced runs. That’s because the thick midsole takes the impact out of landing and feels protective. Additionally, the rocker shaped midsole helps move you forward when you want to make your runs as easy as possible. This is particularly helpful on longer runs too.
In our experience, the rocker shaped midsole also takes the load off calf muscles. Naturally, this also reduces the stress on the plantar fascia. The wide shaped upper design and midsole geometry should help alleviate plantar fascia discomfort. This is relevant for running and walking. The black colourway of the Altra Via Olympus is a very practical option for daily wear.
Shoe size is a personal preference and everyone’s feet are different, but we want to ensure you avoid any pain or discomfort from bruised toenails, rubbing, blistering or pins and needles.
Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb’s width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).
This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
