Advice for Road Runners: The Brooks Men’s Ghost Max Road Running Shoes should not be seen as simply a more cushioned version of the ever-popular Brooks Ghost. The Ghost Max have a number of unique design features – helping them to offer a point of difference to other Brooks running shoes.

Underfoot Experience

When it comes to setting expectations for the underfoot experience provided by the Ghost Max, it is really important to consider how the entire midsole is designed. 

Firstly, there is a high stack midsole of Brooks’ DNA LOFT v2 cushioning. Secondly, there is the existence of a GlideRoll Rocker. Finally, it’s worth noting that the heel to toe drop is 6 mm, and that the base of the Ghost Max is broad. When all of that is put together, the result should be stable neutral running shoes that help you to transition through your gait cycle with ease. They should feel particularly helpful and forgiving if you have tight calf muscles and/or restricted movement at the ankle joint.

Upper Fit

The engineered mesh is very breathable. There is a significant amount of volume in the upper; therefore, it is very unlikely that you will find the upper to feel restrictive. The upper also has a linear last construction, which helps to accommodate the shape of an orthotic. 

Ideal Run Type

The Brooks Men’s Ghost Max Running Shoes are likely to be best suited to training runs at easy to moderate speeds. If you want to run, but you have some tightness in your calf muscles and/or ankles – perhaps due to tiredness from a previous run, then that is when the Ghost Max could be a really good choice. 

Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb’s width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).

This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
