Advice for Road Runners: The HOKA Men’s Clifton 9 Running Shoes in the Ice Water/Evening Primrose colourway are one of the best options for daily miles. That’s because they’re exceptionally light, and offer great comfort for slower to steady paced miles.
Underfoot Feel
The lightweight foam in the HOKA Clifton 9 feels soft, and yet energetic at the same time. This means it should respond well to changes in pace.
HOKA’s signature Meta-Rocker technology rolls your feet forward at landing. It’s likely you’ll notice the transition from landing to take-off feels smoother. Some runners may also find this curved geometry helps take stress off their lower leg muscles.
Even though the Clifton 9 are Neutral Running Shoes, the sides of the cushioning rise up at the sides of the midsole; which provides a small amount of extra support. The relatively broad base should also feel stable underfoot.
Upper Fit
The HOKA Clifton 9 upper offers an accommodating, yet supportive fit. However, if you have broader feet, you may want to opt for the wide-fit Clifton 9. Which we stock at Run4It.
In addition to feeling highly breathable, the Clifton 9 upper features padding in key areas to promote more comfort. For example, around the heel collar.
As HOKA only converts men’s US to UK sizes by half a size, we recommend choosing your normal US running shoe size.
Ideal Run Type
We recommend using the HOKA Men’s Clifton 9 Neutral Running Shoes for your slower to steady paced runs. The lightweight nature of the cushioning means they adapt well to steadier efforts.
If you’re looking for even more cushioning for longer distances, you should check out the HOKA Bondi. The HOKA Bondi are also likely to be more durable than the Clifton as they feature more cushioning and outsole rubber.
Shoe size is a personal preference and everyone’s feet are different, but we want to ensure you avoid any pain or discomfort from bruised toenails, rubbing, blistering or pins and needles.
Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb’s width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).
This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
