Advice for Trail Runners: The iconic HOKA Women’s Speedgoat 5 Running Shoes are one of the most popular models in the trail category.
The bright Festival Fuschia/Camellia colourway should look even better with some mud on it.
Underfoot Feel
You might be surprised by how plush the HOKA Speedgoat 5 cushioning feels. Whilst many trail running shoes feel firmer than road running shoes, these feel very cushioned.
Despite the protective nature of the midsole, it still feels nimble and adaptive on uneven ground. The MetaRocker™ also rolls your feet forward, so you can keep pushing in loose and unpredictable terrain.
As the name suggests, the Speedgoat helps you run up and down trails at maximum pace. The Vibram® MegaGrip with Traction Lug outsole offers best in class grip on both wet and dry terrain. 5 mm lugs dig into loose ground and optimise surface area on flat wet rock.
Upper Fit
The HOKA Speedgoat 5 features a soft and supportive double-layered jacquard mesh. The premium design should minimise the chances of friction.
There’s also an elasticated section across the top the toe box that improves comfort at the base of the toes. It can also adapt to foot swelling – a common occurrence in events such as ultras.
Ideal Run Type
The reason the HOKA Women’s Speedgoat 5 Running Shoes are so popular is because of how versatile they are. Even though these help runners negotiate the toughest trails at high speeds, they should feel very comfortable for relaxed trail runs on the unbeaten track.
The protective and plush cushioning should feel great for longer distance trail runs. In our opinion, these are ideal for racing ultras.

Sizing Advice
Shoe size is a personal preference and everyone’s feet are different, but we want to ensure you avoid any pain or discomfort from bruised toenails, rubbing, blistering or pins and needles.
Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb’s width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).
This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
