Advice for Trail Runners: The highly anticipated Nike Men’s Ultrafly are Nike’s first trail running shoes to feature a carbon Flyplate. The midsole offers incredible propulsion, so you can run faster on trails.
Underfoot Feel
A carbon Flyplate is layered between Nike’s famed ZoomX foam. This means the Nike Ultrafly should feel exceptionally cushioned and propulsive underfoot. As these are trail running shoes, knit-fabric wraps around the soft ZoomX foam to protect it.
Specific midsole shaping creates stability on uneven terrain. To explain further, a flat bottom and minimised lateral rocker ensures you can plant your feet with confidence. As these trail running shoes are for fast-paced runs over long distances, a heel-to-toe rocker delivers smooth transitions.
When it comes to grip, Nike partnered with Vibram to provide best in class performance. Renowned for its ability to provide traction on wet and dry surfaces, Vibram Litebase covers all the bases. Especially if you’re doing trail races in particularly variable terrain. Chevron shaped lugs optimise traction on uphill climbs and technical descents.
Upper Fit
As the Nike Men’s Ultrafly are for racing in, particular attention has been paid to making the upper feel light and breathable. What could be better for this job other than Nike’s iconic Vaporweave mesh.
However, the orange structure in the middle of the upper is a midfoot band. While the upper is light, it still offers support for uneven terrain. We’re also big fans of Nike’s trail logo on the medial side of the upper.
Ideal Run Type
For the avoidance of doubt, these Nike trail running shoes are not intended for casual trail runs. Instead, the Nike Men’s Ultrafly trail running shoes offer a performance boost when you’re trying to run faster in demanding off-road races. Particularly in long distance events, when there’s significant stress placed on your muscular endurance.
Given how much of benefit Nike’s carbon plated superfoam running shoes can provide on the road, it’s fair to say these are very likely to have similar benefit on the trails.
Shoe size is a personal preference and everyone’s feet are different, but we want to ensure you avoid any pain or discomfort from bruised toenails, rubbing, blistering or pins and needles.
Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb’s width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).
This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
