Advice for Road Runners: The Nike Men’s Vaporfly 3 in the Hyper Pink/Black-Laser Orange colourway gets our seal of approval. The elite racing workhorse has been updated with more stability and energy return than the previous model.
Underfoot Feel
The Nike Men’s Vaporfly 3 feels ultra propulsive. Like the previous version, it features a full-length carbon fibre Flyplate. However, Nike has altered the ZoomX foam. It’s been tweaked to deliver more energy return. Thanks to a new thinner outsole rubber, that doesn’t sacrifice durability, more ZoomX foam is added to the midsole too. If you’ve worn previous versions of the Vaporfly, expect even more speed from the 3rd edition.
We know some runners found previous versions of the Vaporfly unstable at times. To counter this, Nike has redesigned the Vaporfly 3 with a midsole bulge. You should be able to chase faster times with more confidence.
Upper Fit
If you’re wondering about the fit, the Vaporfly 3 is made with a wider toe box to create a more spacious feel than previous editions. In order to keep your feet cool when you’re pushing the pace, an ultra breathable Flyknit upper is used. At the same time, supportive yarns keep your feet in place.
Should you ever suffer from ankle rubbing, you’ll pleased to know that the heel seam has been offset to prevent friction.
Ideal Run Type
When you want to run faster, the Nike Men’s Vaporfly 3 is a perfect choice. There’s little doubt these will help lots of runners achieve personal bests in events such as the marathon.
While we recommend doing some training runs in the Vaporfly, you may want to limit the miles so you get the full benefit from them on race day. Some runners might use a dedicated pair for training and another for racing.
Shoe size is a personal preference and everyone’s feet are different, but we want to ensure you avoid any pain or discomfort from bruised toenails, rubbing, blistering or pins and needles.
Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb’s width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).
This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
